Cisco has acquired cloud networking company Meraki for $1.2 billion in cash, the companies have announced.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second quarter of Cisco's 2013 fiscal year.
"When compared to other opportunities, Meraki built a unique cloud-based business from the ground up that addresses the broader networking shift towards cloud, not just within wireless. Meraki created a massively scalable architecture that offers easy to deploy, secure, and manage networks," wrote Cisco in a blog post announcing the acquisition.

While it may seem counterintuitive at first sight, Kohler's "Moxie" shower head pumps out sound while water flows through it.
Integrated with a wireless speaker, the Moxie pairs with any Bluetooth-enabled device, up to 32 feet away. From playlists to podcasts, it can deliver up to seven hours of sound, according to Kohler's official website.
Users pop the capsule-like magnetic speaker into the center of the shower head, docking it securely in place. To see the Moxie in action, check out the video, above.

The pièce de résistance of Thanksgiving is the turkey. For a first-timer, the bird can seem intimidating, but there are dozens of YouTube tutorials, depending whether you choose to stuff the bird. Don't forget to buy the turkey a couple days ahead of time, or you'll be stuck with a frozen block of ice bird.

While the gallery above will take you step-by-step through the perfect meal, it's important to grab the ingre…

Most recruitment processes are costly and ineffective. Hiring managers are bogged down by unqualified applicants and an excess of resumes. In fact, Bradford Smart, president of the recruiting firm Smart & Associates, says that only 25% of hires are considered top performers.
Worldwide, companies spend an estimated $120 billion per year on recruiting. The Novo Group's 2012 HR and Recruiting Trends Survey reported that 78% of HR leaders naming the search for top talent as their number one challenge. But if all of this money and effort results in only one in four top performers, there has to be a…

Does this sound familiar? You're lying in bed, ostensibly ready for dreamland. But first, you grab your smartphone and set the requisite six alarms (all of them blaring the Star Wars theme). But while you've got your phone out, you might as well text your buddy back like you meant to. Plus, now is the perfect time to plow through those 11 games of Gems With Friends that have been on hold. Oh, and there was that sloth video you never got around to watching on YouTube. Then, maybe it's time for bed. But you should probably throw something on Netflix to help you pass out.
It's a perfectly normal routine. In fact, 95% of people s…

Imagine a child's building blocks. Now imagine them moving around, lighting up and even interacting with each other, while being controlled by your iPhone. That's the idea behind ATOMS, a Kickstarter project that launched Monday.
Ex-Apple employee Michael Rosenblatt assembled the Seamless Toy Company from the startup scene in Boulder, Colo. over the past few months. In four weeks, the company has cranked out 13 prototypes of ATOMS, tiny devices that kids of all ages can use to build working interactive toys.

Give the gift of noise this holiday season. HiddenRadio is a uniquely designed, portable wireless speaker that you can "unwrap" each time you use it.
Rather than traditional button volume adjustment, twist HiddenRadio's outer shell to increase or decrease volume. As you would expect, the volume increase as more of the speaker becomes exposed.
In a promo video, co-creator John Van Den Nieuwenhuizen call's HiddenRadio "the world's simplest and most intuitive Bluetooth and radio speaker, ever." The device itself looks like a futuristic canister. It comes in three colors -- pure white, graphite black or metallic silver, which matches Mac laptops.

iOS devices and Macs with OS X 10.6.6 or higher experienced a nearly five-hour outage, from 11:45 a.m. to 4:32 p.m. PT (2:45 to 7:45 p.m. ET) after the Cupertino, Calif. company's instant messenger service and video-calling app suffered from downtime.
Apple confirmed the outages on its status page around 1:30 p.m. PT (4:30 p.m. ET), saying that some "users are unable to use" use iMessage or place FaceTime calls.
At the time of writing, the company's system status page says, "Normal service has been restored." It's unclear what caused the downtime. Apple did not immediately…

We are a visual society. We enjoy looking at beautiful and interesting things. A 2012 study by ROI Research confirmed this. They found when users engage friends on social media sites, it's the pictures they enjoyed the most. If brands post pictures over any other media, 54% of respondents said they're more likely to engage.
If this is how we respond to our friends and the companies we like, then why wouldn't we want it to be the same for jobs? Instead of just telling people about a job or making them read a job description, we now have the ability to show people the job, the company, and the corporate culture using the social media platform Pinterest.
