Carnegie Mellon Carnegie Mellon, the private research university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was originally founded by industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie as the Carnegie Technical Schools in 1900. In addition to the Wi-Fi running throughout most of the campus, there are a myriad of departments and programs having to do with all aspects of technology. Carnegie Mellon's Center for Technology Transfer and Enterprise Creation connects inventions developed on campus with companies that can bring them to market. The Quality of Life Technology Center focuses "on the development of intelligent systems that enable older adults and people with disabilities to live more independently." Carnegie Mellon is home to Professor Manuela Veloso, aka the "Robot Master," who teaches in the computer science department. According to a recent study by internet security company McAfee, kids are witnessing and sometimes engaging in cyber bullying. Almost one in four of teens claimed to be a target of cyberbullying and two-thirds of all teens have witnessed cruel behavior online, notes the Teen Internet Behavior study. Internet in Shock Posted: 23 Aug 2012 08:30 PM PDT  Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong announced Thursday that he would stop his years-long fight against charges brought by the US Anti Doping Agency, though he admitted no wrongdoing. "I am finished with this nonsense," the legendary cyclist declared in an online statement. The USADA shot back that Armstrong would be stripped of his Olympic medal, his Tour de France titles and prize money, and that he would be banned from cycling for life. The update is titled "Red Planet", and will send players to the fields of Mars for more bird-on-pig rivalry. | Obama Becomes First Candidate to Accept Text Message Donations Posted: 23 Aug 2012 11:16 AM PDT  Barack Obama's re-election campaign became the first presidential campaign in history to accept money via text messages, the campaign announced Thursday. Obama supporters on most major cellular networks can now donate up to $50 each billing cycle by texting "GIVE" to 62262. The money will be charged to cellphone owners' bills, the same way donations have been collected in the past by non-profits such as the Red Cross. The Federal Elections Commission cleared the path toward political donations over cellphones in June after lobbying from the Obama and Mitt Romney campaigns to do so.
